Cruising and Working
October 2011
The past year has been more than good to us: beautiful waters, exotic islands, many adventures and almost 20 visitors from Holland and Belgium to share the experiences with. Unfortunately however, we cannot go on sailing without working forever, for obvious reasons. As our original plan was (financially) based on cruising for one year, things on Buena Onda are slowly beginning to change.
In September we undertook a trip to the Venezuelan mainland with our last guest Hesta, which was fantastic. From thereon, we’ve been enjoying Buena Onda with just the two of us, and trying to figure out what we’re going to do next. For one, kitesurfing gets the highest priority from now every time there’s wind. The kitesurfing spot in Curaçao turned out to be a great spot to meet interesting people. But kitesurfing won't solve our financial challenges...
We know we’re not ready to leave the Caribbean just yet. Also, we’d love to stay in one location a bit longer to properly get to know some people. The ABC-islands have proven a nice spot to ponder these issues and do some research. One solution is offering chartering trips on Buena Onda, possibly between Colombia and the San Blas islands in Panama. We had our first chartering experience taking on two guests from Curaçao to Aruba last week. Although this was really fun, I’m not sure if it will cover our expenses in the future. Hopefully we’ll know what the future has in store next time we update this site!
