Fixing our boat
Buena Onda launched!
Yeah baby!!! This afternoon we finally launched Buena Onda, the new name for our beautiful 36 ft sailing boat. She floats, doesn’t leak anymore and hopefully we’ll rock up and down gently in our sleep tonight. A great step forward, after having been in the USA for a month without moving an inch.
Actually it’s double launch party, as we also launch our website today. Check it out, the pictures and videos give a good idea of our daily life these past weeks at Severn Marina.

Fixing additional keelbolts
First thing on our mind when we got here, was to reinforce the keel. A couple of the steel bolts holding the keel (a huge chunk of lead) and the fiberglass boat together were rather rusty, so we decided to add some more. Drilling into lead was a learning process, but we got the hang of it pretty quick and all the shiny new bolts are in place.
New compression post
Whilst working on the keelbolts we found a lot of moisture trapped in the bilge. After chopping away the fiberglass covering the keel-interior, we saw that the compression post was saturated with water. Half of this post was even gone competely due to wood-rot. We're happy to find out now, imagine the mess on board when your mast comes down through the deck in the middle of a storm... The new post is made of rock-hard white oak, and should last us another 30 - 40 years at least!
